SA Artist: Mark Warren
I think it's the crazy colours that attracts me, like butterflies are attracted to bits of Lego with honey-water in them.
I saw this large canvas in the window in the window of Arts SA (the state government department) on Hindley Street and if I had a piggybank with change for spending I probably would have bought it. It's much brighter in real life, and I would only need 5,500 dollar coins in the piggy, which at the rate of 1 per day would take me just over 15 years to save up.

I don't know anything about art, but I know what I like.- attributed to Gelett Burgess, who may or may not have said it first.

Little Miss Papparazzi
Here in little old Adelaide we often miss out on the bigger acts, but Tuesday night was an exception - if Big Names to you means Kick-Ass-Gangster types. If you are 15 and you got yo' lighters up, you were probably at The Showgrounds enjoying school holidays and staying up past 9pm ;) I was there - and I didn't pay $125 for GA tickets. I didn't even pay $170 for the Bling Ring... nope, I was there shoulder-to-shoulder with my Welso Security boys in The Pit - respekt.
We got to wait around by the side of the stage and watch the next acts pull up in minivans, get out in their fluffy white Hilton bathrobes and scurry past under the cover of big dudes with gold chains. Restricted to the first 3 songs of each artist, there was a bit of this waiting around to be done, but all the better to soak up a bit of My-Job-Is-Cool-At-Times under the big Ferris Wheel, and eavesdrop into conversations about why Akon was a no-show (stopped for drugs at the airport??)
Due to a rather strict release form, the only place these shots are supposed to appear is on the Glam Adelaide website - so I'm going to send you all over there to have a look at my close encounters with Kelly Rowland, Eve, Sean Paul, Jay Sean, Pitbull and Kardinal Offishal.
Full gallery at Glam Adelaide - thanks Kelly (Noble, and Rowland)!

Whoops! Must have slipped on the 'cut n paste' button...

The Gawler Line Project: North Adelaide
Welcome to the first edition of The Gawler Line Project. This is a personal photojournalism project that I plan to undertake weekly (time permitting). I have been living with my sister for a while and working in the city, and my daily commute now encompasses the train. Trains featured a lot in my life in Europe, but I'd never really caught one in Adelaide. They simply didn't go past my house and I didn't know anyone along the lines.
Now it's a different story - The Gawler Line and I are becoming quite close, so I thought I'd look deeper at her stations and what goes on around them. Train windows are whole new take on the world. You get back fences and industrial yards to peek over and into, and you don't have to stop for anyone. I like that.
North Adelaide
The first stop out of town on the Gawler Line, North Adelaide, sits between the golf course and the suburb of Bowden. Incidently, Bowden is the location of my first home as a child, although I don't remember a lot of it because we moved when I was 2.

I heard from my Uncle who lives down the street from here that there was some kind of homeless person's bookswap under the overpass, so for my first project I went down to take a look. This is supposed to be photojournalism, not actual journalism, so I wont talk about it much. Besides, I don't know much about who started it or who uses it, so let that be a wonderful mystery to solve another day. May I present, the Bowden Bookshelf...
If you're ever walking by, be sure to take any unwanted clothes, books or magazines and drop them off. Someone else could benefit from your unwanted items. Or if you're looking for a new read or some cheaper-than-Op-Shop-chic, give Bowden a try.
